Adopt an Animal

Great Plains Zoo (GPZ) provides whole-life care to hundreds of animals. Caring for our animals is a joyful undertaking, but it is also expensive. In fact, we spend more than $5,000 each week on food alone!

Providing high-quality, professional care is our top priority - but we need your help!

Each animal comes with its own set of dietary restrictions, stimulation interests, habitat requirements, veterinary care needs, and so much more. "Adopting" an animal is a great way to support some of your favorite animals directly!

You can adopt a red panda, tiger, giraffe, rhino, penguin, or brown bear.

Donations through GPZ's Adopt an Animal program fund all animals within each species, not just the specific animal shown. The animals shown represent the species you are supporting.

As an AZA accredited zoo, from time to time, our animals move based on recommendations in their species survival plans (SSPs). The animal will remain at GPZ for the duration of their lives, unless their SSP dictates otherwise.

  • Love this zoo! Great place to get a walk in and the animals are everywhere! The museum/indoor part is very educational too. Has a lot of shade for when it's hot out. Very clean. Friendly staff.

  • The museum gives you a break from the sun on hot summer days and has a great selection of animal exhibits from around the world.  The zoo keeps growing and adding new animal habitats or improving existing ones.  Membership offers reciprocal benefits to other zoos around the country.
