Seeds of Change

Seeds of change Research

The Great Plains Zoo (GPZ) and Butterfly House & Aquarium (BHA) are excited to embark on a new conservation partnership with Minnesota-based Seeds of Change Research (SOC).

SOC gives high school students a unique opportunity to travel to Costa Rica, conduct field science experiments, explore breathtaking landscapes, and connect with fellow science enthusiasts.

During an SOC trip, students are prepared for university-level science by engaging in hands-on programs, including tropical field research and bioinformatics research. Students learn how to apply the scientific method while collaborating with team members to establish an original research question, design experiments for their project, and problem-solve as a group. They use statistics to validate their findings, and then present their work, like any research scientist would!

By fostering hands-on experiences, this program aims to grow the next generation of environmental stewards. Together, we're sowing the seeds for a future where passionate individuals play a vital role in preserving our planet.
