Maya is March Penguin of the Month

We are excited to announce that Maya is March 2024 Penguin of the month!

Maya’s flipper band is purple. She was born at Great Plains Zoo in 2016 to parents Pennyfeather and Hector, both of whom still live in the habitat. Maya’s partner is El Nino. She is the mother of Sammy, who hatched in 2023. That makes her part of three generations of GPZ Humboldt penguins!

Maya is sassy and playful, and has a lot of attitude. She loves playing with bubbles and sprinklers. She also enjoys tugging on the pantlegs of her care team, and LOVES untying shoelaces.
