Human Resources Specialist

The Human Resources Specialist, in conjunction with the Director of HR & Administrative Services, supports the Great Plains Zoo with HR and administrative processes such as recruitment, benefits administration, employee relations and vendor management.  Focus areas for the HR Specialist will include administrative support, employee recordkeeping, recruitment, new employee orientation, employee health & safety, recognition programs, and payroll.

Duties will include:

  • Support recruitment efforts by posting jobs, scheduling interviews, attending job fairs, processing background checks, generating offer letters, ensuring completion of new hire documentation.
  • Coordinate new hire orientation.
  • Coordinate employee recognition events.
  • Assist with executive meeting preparation.
  • Coordinate annual required CPR/AED training and vaccinations for staff.
  • Assist with benefits, payroll and HRIS administration.
  • Respond to employment verification requests.
  • Maintain employment files.

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of HR experience - prefer experience in benefits, payroll or employment practices
  • Proficiency in MS Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel and Powerpoint).
  • Experience with a HRIS/payroll system is required (Experience with Kronos is a plus).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Must have initiative, drive and ability to complete work with specified deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Supervior verbal and written communication skills.
