Environmental Services Specialist

Come join us at the Great Plains Zoo as an Environmental Services Specialist.   This position plays an important role in ensuring a great first impression for our guests and visitors by maintaining an environment of cleanliness for them.  Opportunity for full-time or part-time employment is available; full-time positions include a generous benefits package.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assure daily cleaning schedules and procedures are followed and that supplies, and equipment are taken care of and stored properly.
  • Maintain clean floors by sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming guest and employee areas including museum, classroom, breakroom, restrooms and office areas.
  • Dust, clean, disinfect and deodorize areas including museum, classroom, breakroom, restrooms and office areas.
  • Remove trash and recycling from interior guest and employee areas.
  • Maintain the care and use of supplies, and equipment.
  • Communicating professionally and positively when interacting with guests, visitors, staff and others.

Qualifications include, but are not limited to:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum 6 months' housekeeping or custodial cleaning experience is preferred.
  • Must be dependable to able to report to work as scheduled.
  • Must have good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have the ablity to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must have ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Must have ability to walk up and down stairs and stand for the duration of the shift.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and pass a background and MVR check.
  • Must have the ability to work well alone as well as part of a team.
  • Must have maturity, sound judgment and good decision-making skills.
  • Must be willing to work daytime hours including weekends.

The Zoo is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster a greater understanding of our natural world through Education, Conservation, Recreation and Discovery.  The Great Plains Zoo cares for animals from around the world and offers up-close views of animals often not found in larger zoos, including Giraffes, Tigers, Rhinos and a national award-winning Snow Monkey exhibit.
