In an effort to contain the COVID-19 virus, the City of Sioux Falls has issued a public health emergency declaration. The Great Plains Zoo is committed to the safety of our animals, visitors, staff and volunteers and supporting the City's actions to slow the spread of this illness. As such, the Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum of Natural History will be closing to the public starting today March 16, 2020 at noon until further notice. Education programs will not be held through March 31, 2020. If you are registered for an Education program or have a ZooMobile booked, our Education staff will contact you regarding rescheduling and/or cancellation.
As of this time, there is no indication that COVID-19 will affect the animals living at the Zoo. However, we will continue to have our Animal Care team in place as usual and stay in contact with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums throughout this process.
We will continue to communicate regarding our operations and events as we move forward. Ensuring a healthy, safe and secure community is pivotal, and the Great Plains Zoo will do all we can to assist in this endeavor. We will continue to utilize recommendations from local and state leaders as well as the Association of Zoos and Aquariums in this fluid situation. Information will be posted on our website (www.greatzoo.org) and social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) as decisions are made moving forward.
Thank you for your support and understanding during this time. We look forward to welcoming our visitors back soon!
Love this zoo! Great place to get a walk in and the animals are everywhere! The museum/indoor part is very educational too. Has a lot of shade for when it's hot out. Very clean. Friendly staff.Taylor F.

Lots of great exhibits and animals to see! Fun gift shop and learning center.Stephanie N.
The museum gives you a break from the sun on hot summer days and has a great selection of animal exhibits from around the world. The zoo keeps growing and adding new animal habitats or improving existing ones. Membership offers reciprocal benefits to other zoos around the country.Bill T.
