The Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum of Natural History will host its annual Christmas with the Animals event on Saturday, January 14.
The event will run from 1 – 4 p.m. with gift openings every half-hour. Zoo-goers will watch the animals unwrap presents filled with fruits and vegetables, munch on garlands made of Cheerios, and nibble on the Christmas trees. Christmas with the Animals is part of the Zoo’s ongoing animal enrichment efforts. The purpose of enrichment is to encourage natural behaviors such as foraging, scent marking and hunting.
“Enrichment is a top priority for our Zookeepers and Christmas with the Animals provides a fun format that the public can enjoy as well,” said Elizabeth A. Whealy, President and CEO of the Great Plains Zoo.
The Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum of Natural History is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with grounds clearing at 5 p.m. Visit us online at www.greatzoo.org or call 605-367-7003 for more information about the Zoo and Museum.

The museum gives you a break from the sun on hot summer days and has a great selection of animal exhibits from around the world. The zoo keeps growing and adding new animal habitats or improving existing ones. Membership offers reciprocal benefits to other zoos around the country.Bill T.
