Great Plains Zoo to Host 'Breakfast with Santa' This Weekend

December 2, 2016

The Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum of Natural History will host its annual holiday event, “Breakfast with Santa”, on Saturday, December 3 from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. The event is free with Zoo membership or paid Zoo admission.

The Museum and Zoo will been transformed into a winter wonderland, with more than 25 decorated and themed trees. Children will meet Santa and his elves, listen to carolers, enjoy donut holes from Flyboy Donuts, and make a fun holiday craft. Parents are encouraged to take pictures of their children with Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as other favorite costume characters appearing at the event. Families will also enjoy up-close animal encounters and can take part in winter-themed Zookeeper Chats with Reindeer, Brown Bear, Snow Monkeys, and Amur Tigers.

“No matter the season, the Great Plains Zoo is a source of family fun and connections to the natural world,” said Elizabeth A. Whealy, President and CEO of the Great Plains Zoo. “The Zoo is open 361 days a year, and the winter months are a great time to explore the seasonal beauty of the Zoo and to visit our cool-weather loving creatures, like Reindeer and Snow Monkeys.”

“Breakfast with Santa” will take place inside the Delbridge Museum of Natural History except for the Zookeeper Chats which will take place on the Zoo’s grounds. The Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum of Natural History is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Visit the Zoo online at or call 605-367-7003 for more information about the Zoo and Museum.

  • Love this zoo! Great place to get a walk in and the animals are everywhere! The museum/indoor part is very educational too. Has a lot of shade for when it's hot out. Very clean. Friendly staff.

  • The museum gives you a break from the sun on hot summer days and has a great selection of animal exhibits from around the world. ¬†The zoo keeps growing and adding new animal habitats or improving existing ones. ¬†Membership offers reciprocal benefits to other zoos around the country.
