Great Plains Zoo Brings ZooMobile to Henry Elementary School
The Great Plains Zoo will bring its ZooMobile to Henry Elementary School on Tuesday, March 14 at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The ZooMobile visit has been made possible through a gift from the Sammons Financial Group to the Great Plains Zoo. The Sammons Financial Group gift will allow the ZooMobile, one the Zoo’s traveling education vehicles, to reach 96 additional Title I schools in 42 South Dakota school districts by fall 2018.
“Thanks to the generosity of Sammons Financial Group, the Zoo is able to extend its mission of connecting kids with nature and animals,” said Elizabeth A. Whealy, President and CEO of the Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum of Natural History. “We’re excited to expand the footprint of the Zoo’s education programs, and spark curiosity about the natural world in thousands of children across South Dakota including those at Henry Elementary School.
ZooMobile programs are 45-minute educational encounters led by a Zoo Educator and several animal ambassadors. The programs give children the opportunity to meet some of the Zoo’s animal collection, which includes more than 1,000 individuals from 137 species. Students learn about animals and their habitats, and have the opportunity to get up-close to the Zoo’s education animals, including a Screech Owl and Bearded Dragon. All ZooMobile programs meet state and national science standards.
“Sammons Financial Group is thrilled to support an organization that is truly invested in our community and in the lives and futures of our children,” said Jeff Hugunin, 2nd Vice President of Finance at Sammons Financial Group. “We are pleased to partner with the Great Plains Zoo on this important educational outreach program.”
The Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum of Natural History is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Visit the Zoo online at www.greatzoo.org or call 605-367-7003 for more information about the Zoo and Museum.

Love this zoo! Great place to get a walk in and the animals are everywhere! The museum/indoor part is very educational too. Has a lot of shade for when it's hot out. Very clean. Friendly staff.Taylor F•Sioux Falls

Lots of great exhibits and animals to see! Fun gift shop and learning center.Stephanie N
A really great zoo featuring some exotic species and I liked the focus on conservancy/breeding to preserve species for the rhinos. The safari area's cheetah was awesome to see. During a week day going, it was quite open to walk around and enjoy without too much crowding.Joseph H
The museum gives you a break from the sun on hot summer days and has a great selection of animal exhibits from around the world. The zoo keeps growing and adding new animal habitats or improving existing ones. Membership offers reciprocal benefits to other zoos around the country.Bill T
