Princesses and frogs will be descending on the Great Plains Zoo on Saturday, April 22 from 1 – 4 p.m. as part of its annual “Party for the Planet” event. The event puts a fairytale twist on conservation efforts, as young visitors are encouraged to dress like a princess or a frog for an afternoon of crafts, games and creature features.
Ten community partners including the Siouxland Heritage Museum, Sioux Falls Leading Green and EROS Data Center/U.S. Geological Survey will have interactive booths with games and activities centered around Earth Day. Miss South Dakota International titleholders will be posing for photos with visitors, while Zookeeper Chats and frog jumping games round out an afternoon of Earth-friendly activities.
“It’s a fun party with a great message,” said Elizabeth A. Whealy, President and CEO of the Great Plains Zoo. “We invite families to spend the afternoon exploring the Zoo and learning about all the small efforts we all can take to make a big difference for the planet.”

Love this zoo! Great place to get a walk in and the animals are everywhere! The museum/indoor part is very educational too. Has a lot of shade for when it's hot out. Very clean. Friendly staff.Taylor F.

The museum gives you a break from the sun on hot summer days and has a great selection of animal exhibits from around the world. The zoo keeps growing and adding new animal habitats or improving existing ones. Membership offers reciprocal benefits to other zoos around the country.Bill T.
