Cinco de Rhino

Your Great Plains Zoo believes an "all hands on deck" approach is needed to help save the critically endangered Black Rhino. One of the flagship animals of your GPZoo, the Black Rhino is critically endangered, with only approximately 3,000 mature adults left in the wild. This year, GPZoo renewed its commitment to the species with a new partnership with Conservation Biologist Dr. Jeff Muntifering in Namibia.

To help us continue to raise awareness of this important species, we invite you to join us for Cinco de Rhino on May 7, 2022 from 1-4 pm
*All Cinco de Rhino activities are included with the cost of admission

Activities Will Include:

  • Rhino watermelon-eating contest!
  • Rhino Training Demonstration
  • Black rhino Zookeeper Chats
  • Rhino Footwork Demonstration
  • Watch a video from Dr. Jeff Muntifering talking about our partnership and sharing video and images right from Namibia
  • Walking tacos, margaritas, and Corona beers available for purchase at the ROAR Cafe

We hope our three black rhinos (Jubba, Imara, and Komati) will inspire you to join us and take action to protect Black Rhinos in the wild!

  • Love this zoo! Great place to get a walk in and the animals are everywhere! The museum/indoor part is very educational too. Has a lot of shade for when it's hot out. Very clean. Friendly staff.

  • The museum gives you a break from the sun on hot summer days and has a great selection of animal exhibits from around the world.  The zoo keeps growing and adding new animal habitats or improving existing ones.  Membership offers reciprocal benefits to other zoos around the country.
