ZooCamps

Summer ZooCamp 2020

Get ready for a summer camp experience your child will never forget!  With half-day, whole-day and full-week themed camps, summer ZooCamp has an adventure waiting for everyone!  Each camp is customized, but all include games, songs, crafts, snacks, train and carrousel rides, tours of the Zoo, and animal encounters.  Kids also receive a free t-shirt.  Click here to register today!

Please note:  We have not increased the cost of camps; the cost simply now reflects the cost of camp and sales tax combined. 

ZooCamps are available for the following age groups:

Camps for 4-5-Year-Olds

Animal Doctors  (5 half days) – $101.15 for Zoo members / $119 for non-members

How do you care for a toothy tiger or slimy salamander?  What does it take to medicate a meerkat or give a shot to a porcupine?  All creatures, big and small, need a doctor once in a while.  Find out how our Zoo veterinarian helps keep them all healthy! 

  • June 1-5, mornings (9 am - noon)
  • July 20 - 24, afternoons (1 pm – 4 pm)

Fur, Feathers, and Scales  (5 half days) – $101.15 for Zoo members / $119 for non-members

Monkeys are fuzzy and alligators are scaly, and that’s just one way we sort animals into groups.  Does it lay eggs?  Is it cold-blooded?  Sort with us as we discover the major groups of animals – mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, amphibians, and invertebrates.  

  • June 15 - 19, afternoons (1 pm - 4 pm) 
  • August 3 - 7, mornings (9 am - noon) 

Animals Down Under  (full day) – $50.60 for Zoo members / $59.50 for non-members

Kangaroos, emus, and black swans, oh my!  Travel down under and explore the unique wildlife in our new Walkabout Australia exhibit.

  • May 27, 9 am - 4 pm
  • June 30, 9 am - 4 pm 

Savannah Safari  (half day) – $27.65 for Zoo members / $32.50 for non-members

Call it savannah or prairie, the grasslands of the world are home to some amazing animals!  From giraffes of Africa to the bison of South Dakota, discover the creatures that live among the grasses.

  • July 13, morning (9 am – noon)
  • July 17, morning (9 am - noon)

Jungle Journey  (half day) – $27.65 for Zoo members / $32.50 for non-members
Journey through the jungle with us as we explore the rainforest and meet the monkeys, parrots, and other animals that call this habitat home!

  • July 14, morning (9 am – noon)

Mountain Meander  (half day) – $27.65 for Zoo members / $32.50  for non-members

Hike the hills with us as we meet the animals that call the mountains home!  From the snow leopards of the Himalayas to the bighorn sheep of the Rockies, we’ll visit the many mountains of the world.

  • July 15, morning (9 am – noon)

Woodland Wander  (half day) – $27.65 for Zoo members / $32.50  for non-members

Explore the forests and woodlands of the world and discover the many animals that need the trees!  We'll visit tigers, black bears, foxes and more as we stroll through the woods together.

  • July 16, morning (9 am – noon)

Before- and After-Camp Care

Before- and After-Camp Care is available only for full-day camps as noted and at the following times:

  • Drop off:  7:45 am – 8:15 am  (Camp begins at 9 am)
  • Pick-up:  4:45 pm – 5:15 pm (Camp ends at 4 pm)
  • The fee for Before- and After-Camp Care is $11 for one full day or $27 for a five full-day camp.  Simply check the appropriate box on the web registration page.

 

Camps for 6-8-Year Olds

Home Sweet Habitat  (5 full days) – $183.60 for Zoo members / $216 for non-members 

From mountains to deserts and rainforests to grasslands, every place on the planet is home to animals.  Travel with us around the world to discover how different creatures survive and thrive in each of the major habitats.

**Before- and after-camp care is available.

  • July 6 - 10, 9 am - 4 pm

Keeper Camp  (5 half days) – $101.15 for Zoo members / $119 for non-members 

Do you dream of one day being a zookeeper and caring for animals from around the world?  It’s far from easy, but this camp gives you the inside scoop.  Learn all about what it takes to give our animals world-class care, including training and treats!

  • June 8 - 12, afternoons (1 pm - 4 pm)
  • July 20 - 24, mornings (9 am - noon)

Vet Camp  (5 half days) – $101.15 for Zoo members / $119 for non-members 

How does a zoo veterinarian medicate a mongoose or x-ray a turtle?  Imagine what it takes to care for animals from around the world!  All creatures, big and small, need a doctor once in a while; find out how our zoo veterinarian helps keep them all healthy!

  • June 1 - 5, afternoons (1 pm - 4 pm) 
  • June 15 - 19, mornings (9 am - noon)
  • Aug. 10 - 14, mornings (9 am - noon)   

Food Webs  (3 half days) – $68.85 for Zoo members / $81 for non-members 

Herbivore, omnivore, or carnivore - every animal needs to eat!  We'll explore how animals find their food and avoid becoming food in the process as we meet the meat eaters and party with the plant eaters.  

August 3 - 5, afternoons (1 pm - 4 pm)

Outback Adventure  (full day) – $50.60 for Zoo members / $59.50 for non-members

Australia is home to a world of unique and interesting creatures.  Join us as we go “down under” and explore the diverse habitats and discover the animals that call this continent home.

  • May 29, 9 am - 4 pm
  • June 29, 9 am - 4 pm

Conservation Superheroes  (full day) – $50.60 for Zoo members / $59.50 for non-members
All over the world, people are working to save endangered species from extinction.  Discover the “superpowers” they use to make a difference in the lives of wild animals and the part Zoos play in the effort.

  • July 2, 9 am - 4 pm

Camps for 9-11-Year-Olds

Behind the Scenes  (5 full days) - $275.40 for Zoo members / $324 for non-members

Get an inside look at how the Zoo works and discover what it takes to care for our animals.  This limited-enrollment camp will include several behind-the-scenes opportunities throughout the Zoo.

  • June 22 - 26, 9 am - 4 pm 
  • July 27 - 31, 9 am - 4 pm

Zoo Medicine  (5 half days) – $101.15 for Zoo members / $119 for non-members

Take an in-depth look at Zoo medicine, and explore what it takes to keep zoo animals of all shapes and sizes healthy!  Meet the Zoo’s veterinary staff and to learn about the complexities that go into caring for the Great Plain Zoo’s 1,000 animals from 137 different species.

  • June 8 - 12, mornings (9 am - noon) 
  • Aug. 10 - 14, afternoons (1 pm - 4 pm) 

Daring Defenses  (5 half days) – $101.15 for Zoo members / $119 for non-members

Explore how animals avoid being eaten as we discover the body parts, behaviors, and more that protect prey from their predators, and how humans make their own protection based on that of the animal world.  

  • July 13 - 17, afternoons (1 pm - 4 pm)  

Exhibit Engineers  (full day) – $50.60 for Zoo members / $59.50 for non-members
Discover all the elements that go into creating a new exhibit for the Zoo!  Explore our newest exhibits, talk to a keeper, do some hands-on STEM building, and design your own Zoo habitat!
