ZooCamps

Summer ZooCamp 2019

Get ready for a summer camp experience your child will never forget. With half-day, whole-day and full-week themed camps, summer ZooCamp has an adventure waiting for everyone! Each camp is customized, but all include animal encounters, tours of the Zoo, games, songs, crafts, snacks, train and carrousel rides. Kids also receive a free t-shirt. Space is limited, so register today!

ZooCamps are available for the following age groups:

Camps for 4-5-Year-Olds

Animal Doctors (5 half days) – $93.50 + Tax for Zoo members / $110 + Tax for non-members
How do you care for a toothy tiger or slimy salamander? What does it take to medicate a meerkat or give a shot to a porcupine? All creatures, big and small, need a doctor once in a while. Find out how our zoo veterinarian helps keep them all healthy! 

  • June 17-21, mornings (9 a.m. - noon)
  • July 15-19, afternoons (1 p.m. – 4 p.m.)
  • Aug. 12-16, mornings (9 a.m. - noon)

Fur, Feathers, and Scales (5 half days) – $93.50 + Tax for Zoo members / $110 + Tax for non-members
Monkeys are fuzzy and alligators are scaly, and that’s just one way we sort animals into groups.  Does it lay eggs?  Is it cold-blooded?  Sort with us as we discover the major groups of animals – mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, amphibians, and invertebrates.  

  • June 3-7, mornings (9 a.m. - noon)
  • Aug. 5-9, afternoons (1 p.m. – 4 p.m.)

Animals Down Under (full day) – $46.75 + Tax for Zoo members / $55 + Tax for non-members
Kangaroos, emus, and black swans, oh my!  Travel down under and explore the unique wildlife in our new Australia habitat.

  • July 1, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Wild Wiggles (full day) – $46.75 + Tax for Zoo members / $55 + Tax for non-members
Wiggle like the wildlife with us as we jump, run, and climb our way through the animal world!  Find out all about the different ways that animals move, and move along yourself!

  • May 29, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Great Big Bears (half day) – $25.50 + Tax for Zoo members / $30 + Tax for non-members
Big, brown and furry! Discover the amazing lives of the Zoo’s four new brown bears as we see the Zoo’s newly-opened brown bear exhibit and learn about bears in the wild. 

  • July 8, morning (9 a.m. – noon)
  • July 12, morning (9 a.m. – noon)

Jungle Journey (half day) – $25.50 + Tax for Zoo members / $30 + Tax for non-members
Journey through the jungle with us as we explore the rainforest and meet the monkeys, parrots, and other animals that call this habitat home!

  • July 5, morning (9 a.m. – noon)
  • July 11, morning (9 a.m. – noon)

Savannah Safari (half day) – $25.50 + Tax for Zoo members / $30 + Tax for non-members
Call it savannah or prairie, the grasslands of the world are home to some amazing animals!  From giraffes of Africa to the bison of South Dakota, discover the creatures that live among the grasses.

  •  July 9, morning (9 a.m. – noon)

Mountain Meander (half day) – $25.50 + Tax for Zoo members / $30 + Tax for non-members
Hike the hills with us as we meet the animals that call the mountains home!  From the snow leopards of the Himalayas to the bighorn sheep of the Rockies, we’ll visit the many mountains of the world.

  • July 10, morning (9 a.m. – noon)

Before- and After-Camp Care

Before- and After-Camp Care is available only for full-day camps as noted and at the following times:

  • Drop off: 7:45 a.m. – 8:15 a.m.  (Camp begins at 9 a.m.)
  • Pick-up: 4:45 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. (Camp ends at 4 p.m.)
  • The fee for Before- and After-Camp Care is $10 + Tax for one full day or $25 + Tax for a 5-full-day camp. Simply check the appropriate box on the web registration page.

 

Camps for 6-8-Year Olds

Home Sweet Habitat (5 full days) – $170 + Tax for Zoo members / $200 + Tax for non-members 
From mountains to deserts and rainforests to grasslands, every place on the planet is home to animals.  Travel with us around the world to discover how different creatures survive and thrive in each of the major habitats.

  • June 24-28, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • July 29-Aug. 2, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Keeper Camp (5 half days) – $93.50 + Tax for Zoo members / $110 + Tax for non-members 
Do you dream of one day being a zookeeper and caring for animals from around the world? It’s far from easy, but this camp gives you the inside scoop. Find out all about what it takes to give our animals’ world-class care, including training and treats!

  • June 3-7, afternoons (1 p.m. – 4 p.m.) - SOLD OUT
  • July 8-12, afternoons (1 p.m. – 4 p.m.)

Vet Camp (5 half days) – $93.50 + Tax for Zoo members / $110 + Tax for non-members

Outback Adventure (full day) – $46.75 + Tax for Zoo members / $55 + Tax for non-members
Australia is home to a world of unique and interesting creatures.  Join us as we go “down under” and explore diverse habitats and discover the animals that call this continent home.

  • July 3, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Conservation Superheroes (full day) – $46.75 + Tax for Zoo members / $55 + Tax for non-members
All over the world, people are working to save endangered species from extinction.  Discover the “superpowers” they use to make a difference in the lives of wild animals and the part zoos play in the effort.  

  • May 31, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Camps for 9-11-Year-Olds

Behind the Scenes (5 full days) - $255 + Tax for Zoo members / $300 + Tax for non-members - SOLD OUT
Get an inside look at how the Zoo works and discover what it takes to care for our animals.  This limited-enrollment camp will include several behind-the-scenes opportunities throughout the Zoo.

  • June 10-14, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. - SOLD OUT
  • July 22-26, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. - SOLD OUT

Zoo Medicine (5 half days) – $93.50 + Tax for Zoo members / $110 + Tax for non-members
Take an in-depth look at Zoo medicine, and explore what it takes to keep zoo animals of all shapes and sizes healthy! Meet the Zoo’s veterinary staff and to learn about the complexities that go into caring for the Great Plain Zoo’s 1,000 animals from 137 different species.

  • June 17-21, afternoons (1 p.m. – 4 p.m.)
  • Aug. 5-9, mornings (9 a.m. - noon)

Exhibit Engineers (full day) – $46.75 + Tax for Zoo members / $55 + Tax for non-members
Discover all the elements that go into creating a new exhibit for the Zoo!  Explore our newest exhibits, talk to a keeper, do some hands-on STEM building, and design your own Zoo habitat!

  • July 2, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Before- and After-Camp Care
