Accounting Manager

The Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum of Natural History is seeking an Accounting Manager.

This hands-on position is responsible for the accurate and timely processing, reporting and maintenance of the financial transactions for the Zoo.  The incumbent will prepare and analyze budgets in conjunction with CEO and VPO, maintain and generate reports, assist with payroll processing, and oversee the AP/AR and cash handling responsibilities.

Additional responsibilities include: 

  • Ensuring all bank reconciliations are performed in a timely manner
  • Oversight of the preparation of monthly journal entries and documentation for GL account balances
  • Provide work papers, financial statements, and information for annual audits
  • Preparation of monthly financial reports for CEO, VPO and BOD
  • In consultation with the CEO and VPO, invests available funds to maximize returns

The Accounting Manager must:

  • Maintain an enthusiastic, self-reliant and self-starting approach to job responsibilities and accountability
  • Possess exceptional knowledge of accounting, budgeting, GAAP, accounting best practices, laws, standards and state/national regulations
  • Have a heightened awareness of, and attention to detail and accuracy
  • Be able to assess priorities in order to meet deadlines
  • Have excellent computer skills including MS Office, accounting software and databases
  • Be a strong communicator with great organizational skills.

The Accounting Manager must have a college degree in accounting or related field with a minimum of 7 years' related experience. Previous experience in a supervisory role is preferred.  Non-profit accounting experience is preferred.  

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or immigration status will be required upon employment. Criminal convictions are not an absolute bar to employment, but will only be considered in relation to specific job requirements.
