Solstice is a 12 year-old Reticulated Giraffe. She was born on the winter solstice, which is how she got her name! Reticulated Giraffes come from Eastern Africa. They eat leaves and greenery from trees. Giraffes have a unique tongue which is 18-21 inches long! The length helps them strip the branches of leaves. The end of their tongue has tougher skin and a darker color to help protect it from thorns, the sun, and other things that could hurt it! She is very food motivated and is known to make sure she gets some food, even when other giraffes are around. She enjoys any enrichment that she can spend time using her tongue to interact with the item!
