Status in the Wild:

“Libby” came to the Great Plains Zoo in 2001. Six years later, she met “Chioke” when he arrived here from Busch Gardens. Libby and Chioke became friends, and despite their age difference, (Chioke is six years younger) the two began dating.

In September 2012, "Libby" gave birth to her fourth calf, a male weighing 147 pounds and standing about six feet tall.

Reticulated Giraffes are not endangered, but they are part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Population Management Plan. These plans ensure the sustainability of a healthy, genetically diverse, and demographically varied population.
